Saylor has wanted a phone for quite awhile, and he's finally got one. We started him out with a regular voice/texting phone. He was satisfied with that, had a groovy little gadget, touch screen HTC. The more I thought about it, though, I found myself thinking that if he wanted to take "XYZ" class or whatever, we'd gladly pay $25/month for it. So, why wouldn't we pay $25/month for him to have a smart phone?
No good reason. I'm glad I examined that little voice in the back of my head that was saying... "but, he's only 12, what does he need a smart phone for? it's so much money... blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."
Yep. I pulled that voice out into the light, and stared it straight in the eye. It didn't have much to say back. He and I went down to upgrade that morning. He's waiting on his HTC Inspire to arrive in the mail. Should be here tomorrow or the next day. It's fun to watch him get excited about it. He loves to text his friends, and he's always been a gadget kid, so this is absolutely something he will use a WHOLE, whole bunch.

Modded Controller
Saylor spent some money on a modded controller, and has been anxiously (very!! anxiously) awaiting its arrival. It came today, but it's just not as fast as he'd hoped it would be. Saylor handled the disappointment well, and has decided to return it and save up for one that he really wants and that he knows to be of better quality.
He and Hayden have been spending a lot of time hanging out in the 'virtual' sense. John woke up Sunday morning and found Saylor sound asleep with the laptop across his belly and Hayden on the screen (skyping). They've been watching movies and South Park and Daniel Tosh together on Netflix, via Xbox live. He watched Paranormal Activity this afternoon, and is a tad bit nervous about feeling freaky in the dark, now, or having a scary dream. I told him he could sleep with me, if he wanted to.

Computer Time
Saylor spent most of today on the computer, watching various YouTube videos of MW2 game plays. He's found a channel that he's particularly fond of, and the commentator also has a website.
Saylor wrote down the guys gamertag, and went upstairs to send him a game invite, but the guy respectfully asked not be sent game invites. I can imagine if he's in the 'business', he can't go around friending everyone on Xbox live. Darn. Saylor understood his point, though.
One of the videos he watched led him to explore Minecraft a bit further, too. I watched a demo with him and it looks pretty cool, indeed.
He also spent some time checking out his own YouTube channel: checking how many views his videos have gotten, reading comments left by people and responding to those comments. In case that link doesn't work, you can find him on youtube by looking for his username, I think? Well, you can try, anyway! Here it is: ump45seb
It's so fun watching him work things out in his own way and his own time. He's learning so much all the time, from everything he does. And ***HE*** gets to decide what to spend his time on. ***HE*** gets to decide what is important to him. That's pretty big. That's the life I want for Saylor. For him now, as his 12 year old self, but also for the grown up self that he's becoming.

Saylor Flavor
You ever feel like not cooking. Karen and I just were not in the mood last night so we asked Saylor jokingly if he would cook guess what? He did, it was a delicious vegetable stir fry with smoked ham. He cut up all the vegetables and ham and put his own custom spices in. That kids got skills.

Cousin Time
We went and picked J up today; brought him home for some crazy antics (always!) and a sleep over. The boys requested pizza for lunch, so we ordered some delivery from Papa John's. They've been busy playing outside, practicing their flips on the snowy trampoline. They recently came in to upload this video on Saylor's YouTube channel. So much fun :)
Saylor's having a great time playing around with the new droid phone (an HTC Aria). I think I might go with a regular voice only plan and let Saylor have the smart phone. It all depends on the bottom dollar.

First Entry
I've decided to create on-line journals/diaries for each of the children.
Here, I will share what inspires me about Saylor; the funny, interesting, charming, amazing things he does... and he does lots of that kind of stuff. :)
Today, we went to pick up some Microsoft points so he could get into a 10th prestige lobby. I really hope the guy doesn't scam him, but Saylor's pretty confident that he's legit, and so I'm trusting he's got it all under control and understands the risks.
Right now, he's sending the points off to the helper person and hopefully soon he'll have all of the emblems, camos, etc. unlocked.
Saylor loves to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. His favorite, favorite thing to do right now. I've tried to play with him, and so has John, but we don't have a chance and just get killed repeatedly. So, I watch instead.
